Biography
A native of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Ann is blessed to have lived and worked throughout the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Africa, Europe, and Asia, enjoying an international artist fellowship from the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund, grants, and recognition from many.

Photography, video, and now film, continue to be an integral part of Ann's work.  Her goal has always been to give a personal, national, and international face and voice to those who are unable, or who do not have the opportunity to speak for themselves.

Artist Statement
As an artist, writer, photographer, filmmaker, community organizer, curator and educator, I have chronicled our culture, nationally and internationally, in my thirty-two-year document -- I, A WITNESS.

My work documents such subjects as women and aging in Relativity in the Eighties, women in traditional and non-traditional jobs in Don't Call Me Honey: Photographs of Women and Their Work, lesbian women and their concomitant canine companions in Dykes & Their Dogs.  I photographed delegates at the United Nation's International Conference on Women in Nairobi, Kenya in July of 1985 in Reaching Common Ground and the UN's Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China in 1995 in The Big Picture.

My work has chronicled waitresses in Workin' the Counter, women in prison in Condemned:24:7:Women In Prison, lesbian and gay athletes in Gay Games II at San Francisco's Triumph in '86 and Gay Games IV in New York City's Unity in '94, in addition to organizers and activists in A Different Drummer, Native women on the land in Without Reservation, cowgirls, ranch women and rodeo athletes in Tall in the Saddle: Cowgirls, Ranch Women and Rodeo Gals, as well as women incest and abuse survivors in ...And No One Heard Me Scream and Girls in Women's Lives.  From 1987 to 1997, I chronicled women living with HIV and AIDS in Until That Last Breath! Women With AIDS and The Global Face of AIDS - Photographs of Women.  On Fire! Faggots, Fairies, Dykes & Queens presents Cherry Grove, Fire Island, and The Re-Definition of Home - Hotel 309 details homelessness and poverty.  Everything I Know I Learned in the Movies looks at pop culture, political leaders, and society, while Passing and TransFormation mirror today's re-definition of gender and sexual identification.  Strap 'Em Down looks at Drag King culture.  Forgotten Angels: A Matter of Honor recognizes women who served in the Armed Forces, while Number One Killer represents women with breast cancer.
